Mixing & Serving Tips
Mixing Made Easy
Our powders are unflavored and made for sensitive kids. Some never notice them, others pick up a mild taste. Either way, the trick is the same: mix it into a food or drink they already love.
Here's what thousands of parents have learned to make it easy.
A quick word from Marty
Marty built these formulas for his own son. Here are his go-to mixing tips.

Start here: the basics
A few simple habits make almost any method work. Master these first.
-
Mix out of sightOnce kids see you add something, they often decide they don't want it. Mix in another room and bring it out ready to go.
-
Add powder slowly into the liquidSprinkle it in while you stir, never liquid on top of powder. This avoids clumps.
-
Mix it dry firstStir the powder into a dry drink mix (like a dye-free chocolate or strawberry milk powder) before adding liquid. Parents say it's the best anti-clump trick.
-
Use a small amount, in an opaque cup4 to 8 oz of liquid in a lidded cup with a straw. Same cup, same spot, same time builds an easy routine.
-
Give it promptlyDon't let a mixed drink sit out for hours. The powder can turn sour if it's sipped all day.
-
Stir or shake partway throughThe powder can settle to the bottom. A quick swirl keeps it even.
-
Use the right toolA handheld milk frother is the parent favorite for a smooth, lump-free mix in seconds. A blender, small whisk, fork, or shaker bottle work too.
Still a battle? Try these
-
Start at half a scoopWork up over a week or two as your child gets comfortable.
-
Split the doseSpread it across 2 to 3 meals in tiny amounts. Smaller amounts are harder to detect.
-
The syringe methodMix into 1 to 2 oz of a strong-flavored juice (grape or orange), draw it into an oral medicine syringe, and give it at the same time each day with a meal.
-
Squeeze pouchesStir into a reusable applesauce or smoothie pouch for a familiar, self-serve format.
-
Prefer capsules?Bio-Heal, Multi+, and Clear+ all come in capsules too. For kids who are able to swallow them, take them whole. Or open one and stir the powder into juice or food. A lifesaver for kids who detect the loose powder every time.
Many parents mix all three powders into a single drink at breakfast. They blend together fine, so it's one cup, once a day, done.
Building acceptance, the no-pressure way
-
Start with a food or drink your child already loves.
-
Keep 2 to 3 reliable methods ready. If one stops working, calmly switch.
-
Change one thing at a time and keep the rest of the routine familiar.
-
Reinforcers (a sticker or a favorite toy) can help motivate. ABA sessions can be a good place to practice.

"We mix it in his morning chocolate milk. Same cup, same time, every day."
A real family tip"The frother changed everything. No texture issues at all now."
A real family tipWhat to expect
A fine, white-ish, unflavored powder that blends into most foods and drinks. It's the most forgiving of the three, and many kids don't notice it at all.
Parent-favorite vehicles
- Orange juice (the #1 winner), plus apple, grape, or mango juice. 4 to 8 oz.
- Applesauce (the top food). A couple of spoonfuls and it's gone in two bites.
- Smoothies and yogurt (vanilla or strawberry hide it well).
- Chocolate milk, Pediasure, Ovaltine, or a protein shake.
- Stirred into peanut butter, or sprinkled onto a food they already eat.
Serve it within 5 to 10 minutes. The live cultures can slowly curdle milk if it sits too long.
"I've tried many probiotics and my son would never actually swallow them. He doesn't seem to mind this one, especially mixed with orange juice."
Karleen K."Gone undetected by our super picky kiddo. We've added it to his water in a cup with a lid so he can't see it, applesauce, smoothies and milk."
Tiffany"We mix it in with two spoonfuls of applesauce and he gets the half scoop down in two bites."
KrislynWhat to expect
Multi+ is unflavored, but it's a whole-food multivitamin, so it has a faint vitamin taste, a slightly deeper tint, and a touch more grit than Bio-Heal. None of that's a problem once you mask it with a little flavor and mix it smooth.
Parent-favorite vehicles
- Juice (the everyday go-to) and smoothies.
- Oatmeal (maple, brown sugar, or cinnamon carry it beautifully).
- Chocolate almond milk or chocolate milk. The chocolate masks the vitamin note.
- Milk in a tinted or opaque cup so the slight color change never shows.
- Stirred into pudding, yogurt, or a nut butter.
Use the frother (the difference between gritty and smooth), and give the cup a shake partway through, since Multi+ can settle to the bottom.
"I love this multivitamin because I can add it to my son's oatmeal and he doesn't notice. I also love that it's a very small dose."
Aida D."The only vitamin my autistic grandson will take. We mix it in his morning chocolate almond milk, along with his Bio-Heal Pro+."
Amy B."I mixed it in a tinted silly cup and waited for the worst. He took a sip, looked at his cup funny, then drank the rest!"
Christine M.What to expect
Here's the one thing every parent should know up front: Clear+ turns deep purple the moment it touches liquid (sometimes a purplish-green), and it has a faint raw-vegetable smell. That's completely normal. It's the natural bilberry in the formula. You can't hide the purple, so the winning move is to lean into it with foods and drinks that are already purple or berry.
Make the purple work for you
- Grape juice is the #1 choice. It matches the color and the flavor at once. A customer favorite by a mile.
- Berry or grape smoothies and yogurts. Tell your child it's "blueberry yogurt." It basically is, now.
- Grape jelly on toast, or applesauce with a little cinnamon.
- Nutella or peanut butter (the brown hides the purple).
- Flavored sparkling water or a dark juice box.
The color can turn muddy or off-putting in orange juice, apple juice, or lemonade.
Turn the purple into the selling point. Call it "purple medicine" or a "purple power drink." Kids who would resist a mystery cup will ask for their special purple drink.
"We mix it in grape juice and give it with an oral syringe. The grape juice camouflaged it both taste and color, and now my daughter reminds me to give her her 'purple medicine.'"
Kai G."The powder turns purple when mixed, so I told my son it was blueberry yogurt and he liked it!"
Liza G."It's not as easy to disguise as the Bio-Heal because it's distinctly purple, but we've found success mixing it with grape juice."
Rebekah D.Give it time, stay consistent
-
Every child is different, and bodies adjust at their own pace. Many parents tell us they begin to notice changes over the first few weeks to a couple of months.
-
Consistency matters more than perfection.A small dose taken every day beats a big dose taken once in a while.
-
Start low and go slow.Half a scoop to begin, then build up as your child gets comfortable.
-
Some days will be easier than others. That's normal. Keep your backup methods ready and stay calm about it.
